Everyone needs friends - especially people who think they don't! But how can you tell which friends are the real kind? By how they act and how you feel when you're with them:

Real friends:

  • care and show it by being there for you
  • are willing to tell you the truth
  • respect your opinions and values
  • want you to be happy and safe
When you're with real friends you feel:

  • relaxed because it's cool to be yourself
  • unpressured
  • free to talk about what's going on
  • eager to listen and help out.

A real friendship is a two way street... the support flows equally in both directions.
When you've got your people, other problems are easier to deal with. Even when conflicts come up, real friends work things out, non-violently and the friendship grows stronger. But watch out for fake friends.

Fake friends:
  • care more about themselves than you or the friendship
  • can't be counted on or trusted
  • compete with you for friends or bfs/gfs
When you're with fake friends you may feel:
  • on edge because you never know what to expect
  • insecure because you don't know where you stand
  • pressured to make unhealthy choices just to impress people.
  • guarded because it's not safe to talk about whatever's on your mind
  • unbalancedbecause one person gives more than he/she gets
Real friends are the only ones worth having.
