Heidi Klaschka In a matter of eight short years, Heidi Klaschka has visited over 40 countries and worked in 8 of them on assignment. A well established free lance writer/photographer and avid trekker, Heidi brings all that experience, plus her creativity, enthusiasm, sense of humor and zest for adventure to her role of photojournalist for the "Everyone has an Everest" Expedition 2001. Her challenge this spring is to capture the experience of all those involved in the expedition and keep the rest of the world, glued to STEPonline.com for her daily dispatches from the mountain.
Photojournalist

What does a photojournalist do?

A photojournalist must keep her eyes and mind open to what's going on around her and do her best to document the parts that tell the story, as it evolves, from day to day. That means capturing the experience, through words and pictures, from as many angles as possible, from start to finish.

Some (but not all) of Heidi's responsibilities include:
  • Determining the correct amount of film and necessary photographic and writing supplies necessary for the trip.
  • Coordinating with the Team Leader and the Base Camp Manager regarding the timeline of the preparations for the expedition and the documentation of it.
  • Taking assignments from STEPonline's Director of Content
  • Writing daily dispatches from Everest to STEPonline, documenting (with words and photos) the ongoing activities of team members, including climbers and support staff, at base camp and above.
  • Maintaining continuous coverage of the Everest climb through interviews and photographs of climbers and support team.
  • Editing daily logs and rewriting information in required format for print and publication.
  • Managing the development, printing and editing of film on return.
